Ray White New Zealand formalised its Next Leaders program at the start of 2023 based on the company’s strategic direction which is to empower the next generation of leaders within Ray White. On this basis, the Next Leaders program was developed specifically to empower and give our next leaders within Ray White confidence to express their future ambitions.

The journey of the Next Leader’s program has created a pathway that provides progress in an environment of ambition. The cohort that is joined together has come from offices across the nation and has given structure around various forms of ownership involving equity, share, partnership and potential full ownership of a Ray White business.

Carey Smith, executive chairman of the Ray White group in New Zealand, led the program along a journey that gave insights into profitability, market share, brand awareness, recruitment and most importantly leadership. The program was supported by the leadership team of Ray White, together with leading business executives across New Zealand, including Anders Skoe, chief executive of Trade Me, Michael Boggs, chief executive of NZME, Vittoria Shortt, chief executive of ASB, and Rod Duke, managing director of the Briscoe’s group.

Mr Smith said that the first group of Next Leaders reflected the ambition within Ray White.

“We’ve always been a company that has been proud to empower the next generation and the Next Leaders cohort is a true example of the depth of talent within our group,” he said.

“We were proud to have significant business leaders across New Zealand join us and give their insight and stories of leadership to our group.

“It is important for our organisation to give our next leaders our knowledge and insight.

“We are a business that is proud of our history and very determined about our future.

“The Next Leaders group for 2024 will join together shortly and will enjoy the benefits and knowledge that we have learned from our first year of our next leaders coming together.”

Emma Moyle from Ray White Swanson said the Next Leader’s program had been “uplifting and incredibly insightful for her business”.

“It has given me encouragement and a great deal of motivation to hear the stories of the various speakers who have presented during the program,” she said.

Hamish Harrison from Ray White Gisborne said that the Next Leaders program had encouraged the group to be brave around ambition.

“While there are processes and structures to owning a business, what the Next Leaders program has emphasised is our leadership styles and how we can embrace learning and providing an environment of excellence.”

Daniel Coulson, chief executive of Ray White New Zealand said that the Next Leaders program was the oxygen for the organisation.

“This year alone we have made a number of moves within our company to support our next generation of leaders,” he said.

“We are able to provide a pathway not only through the Next Leaders program but also through our corporate support that is geared towards process structure and learning. We are very proud of our next leader’s program.”

Ray White is now taking nominations for the Next Leaders 2024 cohort and invites those who are aspirational within the industry to join the program and be provided with insights that give confidence within the industry to be a future leader.
