Wellington auctions defy the odds

Ray White in Wellington has defied the odds, achieving a 100 per cent auction clearance rate last week despite the challenging market conditions.

At their auction event on Friday, the team sold eight out of eight properties under auction conditions.

Ray White New Zealand auctioneer Ben East (pictured above) called the auctions and said the event was a huge success.

“Friday’s auction room was packed wall to wall with buyers who are out in force attempting to secure property in Wellington,” Mr East said.

“Whilst the current landscape has seen a notable increase in stock levels, good property in favourable locations are still attracting multiple bidders at auction.”

The top result was for 18 Captain Edward Daniell Drive, Ngaio, which sold under the hammer for $1.575 million, a great result for Ray White Wellington City listing agents Kartjana Anderson and Ben Stevens and the vendors who were moving overseas.

The property attracted seven registered bidders with six of them placing a bid.

“It was an incredible event and we were all so pumped and excited for our team but also our clients, especially in a very challenging market with rising stock,” Ms Anderson said.

“We simply do not think we would be selling so successfully in this market without the auction process.

“The property was sold to a local family.”

The auction with the highest number of registered bidders was 42 Chelsea Street, Miramar, which recorded 12 registered bidders and seven active bidders. The property sold under the hammer for $1.02 million, a great result for the vendor and Ray White Wellington City listing agents Pano Focas and Andrew Brodie.

Mr Focas said the sellers were a family upsizing to a larger home.

“A young family with three children bought the home, but we had a mix of buyers including young couples and downsizers,” Mr Focas said.

“It was a big, flat, sunny section and a nice solid 1950s home that had been tastefully upgraded.

“The market has been challenging, but good properties are still getting interest.

“There’s a lot of stock for buyers to choose from at the moment.”
