The picturesque Racecourse Hill Homestead has an abundance of potential as a large family home, luxury accommodation, or events venue, as it hits the market.

Located at 3979 West Coast Road, Darfield, Selwyn District, the 25.8ha property is home to a nine-bedroom homestead that was originally built in 1912.

The property is being marketed by Ray White Town and Lifestyle agents Kate Cameron and Brendan Shefford.

“There is so much about this property that will appeal to buyers, including the expansive 25.8-hectare land parcel surrounded by mature trees, beautiful gardens, and lush green lawns,” Mrs. Cameron said.

“There’s also the large homestead with nine unique yet stately bedrooms and five sleek modern bathrooms. The homestead also boasts beautiful family and commercial kitchens, a formal dining room, a sitting room, and a billiard room with the original rimu and kauri timbers retained throughout.

“There is a complete range of outbuildings plus substantial equestrian facilities with a dressage arena and stable complex. The fertile flats are utilised for cattle grazing and are supported by a set of cattle yards.”

The original home, designed by renowned Christchurch architect Cecil Wood, was severely damaged in the 2010 earthquakes and has since undergone a number of renovations.

“The previous owners who purchased this home after the earthquakes spent over $3 million on restoring this beautiful homestead,” Mrs. Cameron said.

“Over the years there have been extra additions such as the large internal access garage that was built in keeping with the property.

“Over $300,000 was spent on the stunning pond and fountain which sets the tone when approaching this idyllic home.

“A chapel was also relocated here from Colgate which provides a spectacular location and immense potential for a magical and bespoke wedding venue.”

Mrs. Cameron said the property would appeal to a broad range of buyers including extended families, those downsizing from large farms, and business people.

“The property has multiple options as a grand old homestead and home for somebody, but also numerous potential business opportunities such as luxury accommodation, wedding and events venue etcetera, subject to necessary consents,” she said.

“Therefore, buyers will see the home differently depending on what they believe the potential the property has and what they can do.”

The property is being offered for sale via deadline sale, closing 23 November (unless sold prior).
